All tyres lose pressure over time, so pumping up and maintaining the pressure of your car tyres is a necessity that won't cost you anything and comes with several added benefits.
Tyres that are properly inflated tend to handle better, improve the fuel economy of your vehicle, wear better and generally last longer.
A good practice is to check the pressure at least once a month, when the tyres are cold. So keep this in mind next time you're filling up with petrol and there's a inflation point nearby.
When the time comes, here are the simple steps to take:
- Change the electronic pressure setting to match the recommendation for your car
- Remove the dust caps from the valves and fit/secure the hose fitting to the valve stem
- Once the desired pressure has been reached, you should hear an audible alert
- Release the hose fitting clasp and remove the hose from the valve stem
- Remember to replace the dust cap
Repeat the above steps for each tyre, adjust pressure setting as you go (the rear tyres will most likely be less than the front). And while you're at it, be sure to check the spare tyre in the boot so it's ready to use when needed.
You'll find the recommended inflation pressures on a sticker in the driver's door opening. If you can't find it there, try the glove box or inside the fuel filler door. Our mechanics will also check your tyres during your service, so if your car is overdue you can book in online or by calling (03) 9859 1688.
