If regular maintenance isn't carried out, you can bet you'll experience reduced fuel economy and mechanical failure at some point down the track.
As a general rule, you should probably book your car in for a service every six months or every 10,000km travelled (whichever comes first). The schedule will generally alternate between a minor service and a major service, so you can expect to pay a bit more every other visit.
Some newer cars will have a longer service interval, such as every 15,000km, but keep in mind that modern engines are more complex and often less tolerant of neglect. So don’t be tempted to squeeze an extra few months out between visits.
No matter the make or model, servicing your car is important and needs to be done regularly. If you don’t, your car is more likely to encounter problems that could have been caught earlier or avoided entirely. You’re also more likely to end up with a big bill down the track rather than saving money. So think big picture and keep your car servicing up to date!
